I am a Retired Government official. Can I be issued a passport without Police Verification?

Ans: You cannot obtain a passport without police verification. But, if you apply under the Tatkaal scheme with required documents, passport can be issued on Post police verification basis (i.e. police verification would be done after the issuance of passport).

In case of minor's passport, whose father is abroad, is it mandatory to obtain father's consent to apply for the child's passport? If so, what is the procedure?

What is the fastest way to replace a lost passport?

Ans : If you have lost your passport, you can apply for duplicate passport. There can be two application mode for duplicate passport application based on the scenario that validity of passport is still left or is expired.

If validity of passport is still left - Duplicate passport can be applied under normal category only. It takes approx. 30 days time in getting passport under normal category.

If validity of passport expired - Duplicate passport can be applied under tatkal as well as normal category , depending on the need or urgency. It takes approx. 3 days time in getting passport under tatkal category. In normal category , it will take 30 days time.

I want to change father's name of the child in his passport, since I recently got remarried. What would be the documents required to do so.

Ans : If an applicant whose biological parents have been divorced or one of the biological parents has expired and the biological mother/father (having the custody of the child) gets remarried, applies for passport and wants to get the same issued with the name of the stepfather/step mother instead of biological father/mother, as the case may be, following documents would be required :

A self-declaration on a plain paper stating that he/she does not want to have biological father/mother’s name on his/her passport and instead of that, the name of the step father/mother be mentioned against the column of father’s/mother’s name. The applicant also has to declare that in future if there is litigation, the entire onus to defend such a case will be on him/her.
At least two educational/public documents where the name of the step father/mother is mentioned against the father/mother’s name column.
Registered Marriage Certificate (of remarriage) of parent who is applying for minor.
Death certificate from the authority concerned in respect of the death of the biological father/ mother, if deceased.

Validity of passports
