1.65 Lakh fake Ration card to be cancelled in Delhi

1.65 lakh ration cards have been deactivated by the Delhi Government's Food and Civil Supplies Department,found these cards to be bogus.The supply of subsidised food grains has been stopped. Around 1.7 lakh card holder across the city suspecting these cards might be bogus. 2 months of time has been given to proof their authenticity.The department has decided to deactivate these cards from the records. Advertisements were there in the newspaper requesting these card holders to come up with records and get their card released.There is no response from card holders.So they have decided to deactivate  these cards considering them to be bogus.


A notice with  card details would be issued within a week said,S.S.Yadav,Secretary,Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs.Since April Entitlements to these card holders has been stopped and department is said to have saved around Rs 6.5 crore."On an average,the department has saved around 50,000 quintal of food grains(38,000 quintal of wheat and 12,000 quintal of rice) every month since April" an official said. Around 6.32 households are curretly being covered under the Food Security Act in the city through Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) Card,Below Poverty Line(BPL) Card, Jhuggi Ration Card (JRC),Resettlement Colony Ration card (RCRC) and APL (Above Poverty Line) stamped cards.


Officials said the department suspects that it can weed out more of bogus ration cards and they would be launching another exercise to scrutinise cards under APL stamped category. People under  this category will get  subsidised food grains,rates higher than those under FSA.    Official said "under the APL stamped category,the number of bogus card is likely to be much higher and scrutiny process will begin soon.
